“The Press” Special Service AUCKLAND. Stylish Major’s national mile race record of 2min 2 2-ssec—set only last Wednesday at Addington, might be beaten at Cambridge tonight when some of New Zealand’s fastest trotters will contest the McMillan Free-for-all.

Break Through, whose hectic front running paved the way for a new mark, is among the 11 candidates. So is Uteena, another Canterbury speedster. Brilliant acceleration, both from standing and mobile starts, was a feature of Uteena’s performances at the Auckland Trotting Cup meeting. Powerful opposition seems certain to come from the top northern trotters, Mountain Pride and Single Cash. Highland Flight, Eastern Star, and Bata will also have good followings, but the veteran, Scotleigh, holder of the track record of 2min 5 3-ssec, would have to show considerable improvement on his latest form to have a winning chance. All that is needed for a memorable contest is fine weather. The Cambridge track is one of the fastest in the Dominion—it is regarded by many as faster than Alexandra Park—and it was in perfect order yesterday. False Star looks a good prospect for the Windsor Memorial, the second leg of the T.A.B. concession double. He took no harm from his fall at Rotorua last Thursday when he slipped in the greasy going just after the start. At his previous start, he scored an easy win over two miles at Claudelands. The much-improved Alton should go well from his handy barrier draw and Bachelor Gay and Capital will also be well backed.

Garcon Roux, will be at short ! odds in the Cambridge Threei year-old Stakes, which is notable also for the presence of the fine filly, Via Veneto, Gerrand and Faye Bingen.
