BRIDGE TOLLS
Mohawks Cite Treaty MASSENA (New York), Dec. 16. Mohawk Indians say they will go on a twentieth century warpath on Wednesday unless the United States and Canada honour a treaty signed in 1794. The treaty guarantees them free access between the United States and Canada. Therefore, the Indians said at a public meeting, they should not have to pay tolls or duty fees to use the international bridge across the St Lawrence River. If the treaty was not honoured by Wednesday, the Indians said, they would block the bridge with their cars and will withdraw their children from the public schools in nearby Cornwall, Ontario.
