Amalgamation.— Talks have begun on the amalgamation of the Bush and Wairarapa Rugby Unions. The Bush union has stated that whide it could not agree in principle to the amalgamation of Wairarapa and Bush, it would be agreeable to hold discussions with Wairarapa and Southern Hawke’s Bay on amalgamation. Retiring.— M. P. Weston, who captained England against France and Scotland last season, is retiring from Rugby at the end of this season, the London "Evening News’’ reported. Weston, aged 29. injured his right ankle in South Africa in 1962, and the injury had got progressively worse. He won 29 England caps—a record for a back. Only two players have played more times for England. Tennis Manager.—Nominations and applications for the position of captain-manager of the 1969 Davis Cup team have been called for. But the management committee of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association has added a precautionary comment, that a decision whether or not to add a manager to the team had not yet been taken. The availability of people both in New Zealand and overseas is being sought. Record Wins.— The Irishman. J. Barrington, has become one of the few players to win the British amateur squash rackets title three years in succession. Barrington beat the 28-year-old international, M. Corby, of England. 3-9. 9-1, 9-3, 9-2, in the final. Driver Entered.— A late entry for the New Zealand Grand Prix at Pukekohe on January 4 is the wealthy young British driver. Malcolm Guthrie, the son of 8.0.A.C. chairman, Sir Giles Guthrie. He will race the Tasman circuit as a private entrant, driving a Brabham. Replacement. Metric distances will be used for the women’s athletics match between New Zealand and a combined New South Wades and Victoria team next month—first day in Hamilton on January 22 and the second in Christchurch on January 25. The new 100 metres hurdles event will also be included in the programme for the first time, replacing the 80 metres. Junior Tennis.— The semifinals and finals of the Howe and Slazenger Shields junior girls’ and boys’ representative teams' tennis events will be held in Auckland from May 16 to 17. They will, be followed by the New Zealand junior hard-court championships at the same venue from Mav 19 to 22. Scholarship.— C. Greendale, a leading New Zealand and Auckland junior tennis player, left for the United States on Saturday to take up a four-year scholarship at the University of Southern Illinois. He will be followed early next year by G. Snook and D. Walker, two other leading Auckland juniors. Running In Aust.— The top Wellington track athlete, and All Black wing, O. G. Stephens, may compete in Australia during the Christmas holidays.
