TRANSPLANT OF KIDNEY

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Dec. 16. 1 Middlemore Hospital has carried out its first kidney transplant. Such transplants have previously been confined to the medical unit in Auckland Hospital, but it is planned to begin them in Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin next year. About 50 kidney transplants have taken place in the medical unit in the last two (years. In the operation on Thursday a kidney was transferred from a man killed in an accident.
