Maori Affairs Post

An administrator and accountant has been appointed Deputy Secretary for Maori and Island Affairs and Deputy Maori Trustee. He is Mr K. Laurence, aged 54, at present district officer for the Maori and Islands Affairs Department at Whangarei. He will succeed Mr B. E. Souter, who will retire at the end of the year. Born at Inglewood, Taranaki, in 1914. Mr Laurence joined the Public Service in 1930 with the Works Department at Paeroa, and entered the Department of Maori Affairs as an officer at Rotorua in 1951.
