Band, Marching Girls
Traditional gala features, reminiscent of a Hollywood extravaganza, and a few innovations have been arranged for the premiere. A brass band and two teams of marching girls will leave Cathedral Square at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday and march up High Street to Manchester Street then to Tuam Street. From the time they arrive the marching girls and band will perform in front of the theatre until 8 p.m. In the foyer a choir of junior boys from St Barnabas’ Church will entertain patrons with Christmas carols. One of the boys who played the title role in the original Christchurch stage production of "Oliver!”, Michael MeGuinniety, will be at the performance to present a bouquet to the Mayoress, Mrs A. R. Guthrey, and Mr Guthrey will present the cheque for the proceeds of the performance to a representative of the home.
