All proceed* from the New Zealand premiere of the film version of “Oliver!” In Christchurch on Thursday will go to the Cholmondeley Memorial Children’s Home. Under the patronage of the Mayor (Mr A. R. Guthrey), the Bishop of Christchurch (the Rt Rev. W. A. Pyatt) and the Roman Catholic Bishop of Christchurch (the Most Rev. B. P. Ashby), the gala premiere has been arranged through the courtesty of Sir Robert Kerridge and Col* umbla Films (N.Z.), Ltd. The film was offered to the home’s trust board by the film company and Sir Robert Kerridge offered the Odeon Theatre for the screening. In all 700 tickets were made available. The home, at Governor’s Bay, has provided relief in emergencies to families in .Christchurch and surrounding districts for 43 years. The object of the home is the care of children in circumstances where the mother is ill or run down or a parent has deserted, during a bereavement or in distress of some kind —or simply when children need convalescence or a change of environment. Administered by a voluntary committee elected annually by subscribing members, the home is not a church home or endowed in any way. It is on a five-acre and a half property and has its own school and Education Department teacher. It accommodates 14 boys in the three to 10 age group and 14 girls in the three to 12 age group. The usual length of stay, depending on circumstances, is four to six weeks.
