Survey Makes Hitler Greatest Criminal
(N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) HAMBURG, Dec. 13. The Nazi dictator, Adolf Hitler, dead for 23 years, still casts a long shadow over West Germany, according to a nationwide public opinion survey, the Associated Press reported. The survey, published in the current issue of “Stern” magazine, placed Hitler first on the list of the greatest criminals of the twentieth century, ranked him eleventh among the most admired statesmen .third among the most exciting men, and seventh among the most capable military commanders of this century. The survey also attests to the continued popularity of the late United States President, John F. Kennedy, who topped the list of the most admired statesmen and was second to the late Chancellor Konrad Adenauer among the most exciting men of the last 50 years.
The survey of 1852 West Germans was conducted by a Bonn public opinion research organisation recently. Thirty-five per cent of those asked listed Kennedy as the most admired statesman and
32 per cent ch... Adenauer. Next on the list was the former West German President, Theodor Heuss, with 3 per cent. Field Marshal Erwin Rommel, the German “decert fox” of World War 11, headed the list Ox the most capable military leaders. He was followed by Eisenhower, Paul von Hindenburg, Moshe Dayan, de Gaulle, Churchill, Hitler, William Westmoreland, Viscount Montgomery and Douglas MacArthur.
