3000 SIGN PETITION

“Mona Vale” Protest

A petition with more than 3000 ratepayers’ signatures on it protesting against the purchase of “Mona Vale” will be presented to the Christchurch City Council on Monday evening, according to Mr W. J. D. H. McFaul, the secretary of the Ratepayers’ Anti-Mona Vale Protest Committee. He said last evening that the petition would be given to Cr N. G. Pickering, who would be asked to present it. The petition seeks to have the council’s decision to buy “Mona Vale” rescinded and every ratepayer given an opportunity to vote on the issue. Mr McFaul said that if the petition was ignored the committee would seek an injunction to prevent the council buying the property. “This will mean the matter can be thrashed out in court," he said.
