Fulton’s Team Leads In Brabin Trial

R. W. Fulton’s XI looked a far more competent side than did A. E. Collins’s XI in the Brabin trial which began at the Christ's College ground yesterday. After bundling out Collins’s team for 118 with some fine medium-pace bowling by Fulton and B. Davidson, Fulton’s XI had scored 263 runs for six wickets at stumps.

Davidson, who comes from Timaru, showed that he could move the ball dangerously and claimed four of the first five wickets to fall. Fulton finished with excellent figures, four wickets for only eight runs, but he came on after Davidson had removed the top batsmen. A. Glen, the only batsman to appear capable of a large score, received able support from P. McKay. Fulton and S. Ryan gave 'their side a solid start and (Fulton completed a good day (by making 40. However, it 'was the Linwood High School (pair, J. Phillips and R. Bud-( -Ilia, who forced the pace. ( Budhia, in particular, was; severe on the bowling. He made an aggressive 77 and! drove with surprising power! for a schoolboy.

Phillips was the more subdued of the two but was more I correct in his methods. He (is a fine prospect as he is

also a promising wicket-1' keeper. Scores:— I COLLINS’ XI A. C. Collins lbw Davidson I*2 i, M. Calder lbw Davidson .. 7‘; B. Foote run out 1 ■ T. Bailey, b Davidson 4, B.
