Proposed Change In Trespass Bill
(Xew Zealand Press Association) WELLINGTON, November 19. People who trespass on private land and who refuse to give their names and addresses to the owner could be liable for a fine not exceeding SlOO.
The new offence is part of a proposed amendment to the Criminal Trespass Bill, which was circulated in Parliament today. The bill which was introduced in the House earlier this session was given a pro-
forma second reading and referred to the Statutes Revision Committee for consideration. The committee amended the bill which dealt mainly I with removing the nuisances created by game shooters on I private property. [ Subsequently today’s .amendment followed further [ discussion by the Cabinet and 'the Government caucus. The latest proposed amendment reinserts a provision removed by the Statutes Revision Committee that it will be an offence liable to a fine not exceeding SlOO if a person discharges a firearm on private land without the authority of the owner or occupier. The original bill also made it an offence for a person to go on to any private land without the authority of the j owner or occupier and by means of a dog or firearm, disturb any domestic animal on the property. The proposed amendment,i circulated today, also prohi-! bits the disturbance of domestic animals by means of a vehicle. People who refuse to give their names and addresses when asked to do so by the owner or occupier of the land may be cautioned by the police and if they refuse can; be arrested without a warrant.
