TRAINING SCHEME

The council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening decided to recommend the continuation of the staff training scheme in the New Zealand Electricity Department. ' It said it regarded this as i essential because of the large number of incidents causing interruption to consumen’s supply, caused by human error. The chairman of the chamber’s fuel and power committee (Mr G. A. Sanders) said that a disturbing item recognised by the Minister was the inefficiency of some members of the N.Z.E.D. operating staff. Of 174 incidents causing interruption to consumer’s supply, no less than 38 were caused by human error and this represented 40 per cent of total breakdown time, he said.
