Samples For Dundee Samples of fluoridated water taken from Lower Hutt supplies may result in the city of Dundee, in Scotland, reversing a decision not to fluoridate its water supply. The samples will be taken to Scotland by Mr H. Dickson, who has been a Dundee city councillor for 27 years. Mr Dickson, who owns an air-condi-tioning and heating business in Dundee, has been staying in Lower Hutt with relatives, and left for Scotland yesterday. “We narrowly turned down fluoridation of the Dundee water supply. 1 think we may be able to reverse the decision after I have presented a case based on New Zealand and Lower Hutt experiences,” said Mr Dickson.—P.A. Astronaut’s Thanks The Russian Legation in Wellington yesterday released a message it has received from Georgi Beregovoi, the astronaut who recently completed a successful flight around the earth in the spaceship Soyuz 3. Brigades Contest The West Coast Provincial Fire Brigades Association will hold its annual conference and competitions at Ross tomorrow and on Saturday in association with the centennial celebrations of the Ross brigade. The conference will be held tomorrow evening and the competitions on Saturday. There will be a dinner on Saturday evening for all firemen holding the 25 years service badge. Twentytwo teams from Blackball, Cobden, Greymouth, Greymouth Railway, Westport, Waimangaroa, Runanga, Reefton, Kumara, Otira, Hokitika, Ross and Harihari will compete.—(F.O.O.R.) Emergency Dept The new accident and emergency department at the Christchurch Hospital will be open to the public today. These services will now cease at the temporary premises ; attached to the St Andrew’s I outpatients department. The new department is in Riccarton Avenue, just off the main entrance.
