Y.F.C. Driving Contest

This year’s tractor driving contest will follow a new course. It is aimed at adding to the competitive nature of the display.

Tractor driving contests are a major attraction at English Shows. They are run over four days at the Royal Show, being preceded by heats for qualifiers at provincial shows.

For the contest at the Canterbury A. and P. show, competitors will drive a tractor and trailer with a number of drums lightly balanced. They will be required to weave their way through a line of stakes at 21ft intervals, then reverse their tractors and trailers into a shed.

From there they will be required to drive over a sleeper, diagonally, then hrough a series of driven stakes, which can only be negotiated at a pinch.

Finally, they will reverse around a “square” of stakes.

Competitors will lose points for striking obstacles, and time taken will also be a factor. The maximum number of points has been set at 200.
