Check Of Bandages

Bandages on issue to South Island Civil Defence authorities will be checked for bacterial contamination. Any found to have deteriorated will be sterilised.

The South Island regional commissioner for Civil Defence (Brigadier J. T. Burrows) said this action would be taken as a result of the finding in Palmerston North of contaminated bandages. So far he had received no official information from Wellington on the matter, but the checks would be made in any case.

He said the bandages were checked when they were issued about five years ago.
