A West Berlin court has sentenced Mrs Beate Klarsfeld, aged 19, to one year in gaol for slapping Chancellor Kurt-Goerg Kiesinger across the face at a party congress here.
The woman, a French citizen by marriage, was detained after she hit the Chancellor and injured his left eye. Mrs Klarsfeld’s lawyer said later he would appeal. Mrs Klarsfeld is a former secretary of the Franco-Gennan Youth Service. She has previously embarrassed Dr Kiesienger by shouting “Nazi” at him in public. Meanwhile in Freiburg a man who said he wanted to assassinate Dr Kiesinger was also sentenced to one year in gaol.
Arthur Buhlinger, aged 29, was arrested last April after getting within a few feet of Dr Kiesinger with a loaded revolver, then telling members of the Chancellor’s entourage: “I could not bring myself to do it”
