CHRISTMAS CALLS

Heavy Phone Bookings

The Post Office has already received 643 bookings for overseas telephone calls at Christmas.

Bookings opened only three days ago and the most popular calling times to Britain on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day have already been booked. Bookings for calls to Britain have been coming in at the rate of 100 a day. The hours between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. (New Zealand time) on Christmas Day, and 5 p.m. Christmas Day and 1 a.m. on Boxing Day are fully booked, as are the hours between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. on Boxing Day. There are still plenty of suitable calling times for other countries but experience of previous years indicates that those who lodge calls at Christmas time will have little chance of being connected.
