No Licence For Godley House
An application by the Lyttelton Borough Council for a tourisbbouae premises licence for Godley House at Diamond Harbour has been refused by the Licensing Control Commission on the ground that the council is not authorised by law to hold such a licence. “The conclusion we draw from the legislation is that Parliament has made it plain that local authorities should not enter the licensed trade, other than to assist in the promotion of local trusts to take over new licences.”
The commission's decision, given in Wellington said: “Even if the law is amended in favour Of the applicant, we can give no particular encouragement to believe that a touriat-house premises licence would be authorised for the premises as at present used.”
