CUP BETTING STEADY
(N.Z. Press Association) ~ . WELLINGTON. Betting on the Melbourne Cup today was steady at agencies and branches throughout New Zealand yesterday, the T.A.B. reports. Agencies and branch offices will open at 8.30 a.m. this morning to cope with bets on the $60,000 two-mile event. Betting will close at 3.40 p.m. New Zealand time, an hour before the race. A live commentary will be relayed on the racing network at 4.35 p.m. It will be repeated at 6.45 p.m. An Australian preview giving weather and track conditions, will be broadcast at 8.25 a.m. this morning. Last year New Zealanders bet $207,125 with the T.A.B. on the Melbourne Cup.
