TOPPING-OFF CEREMONY. —Senator Edward Kennedy standing beside his sister, Mrs Jean Smith, at a topping-off ceremony at the John F. Kennedy Centre for the Performing Arts in Washington. Instead of raising the traditional flag, the centre was topped off with steel replicas of the classical Greek masks of comedy (Thalia) and tragedy (Melpomene), which can be seen at top right.
