Big Minh’ Returns

(N.Z. Press Assn— Copyright) SAIGON, Oct. 6. General Duong Van Minh, the popular “Big Minh” who led the coup that overthrew President Ngo Dinh Diem in 1963, returned to Saigon yesterday after nearly four years in exile, a Government spokesman said, the Associated Press reported.

The former South Vietnamese Chief of State, a charismatic figure who enjoys wide popularity and is a hero to South Vietnam’s Buddhists, returned at the request of President Nguyen Van Thieu in a move to increase his support

A Government source, describing General Minh’s return as “a delicate situation,” said it was his understanding that General Minh “does not want to be received by representatives of the press.”
