BOEING 737 OVER CHCH
Circuit Before
Landing
If the weather is suitable, the National Airways Corporation’s first Boeing 737 will circle above Christchurch tomorrow at an altitude of about 2000 ft before landing at Christchurch Airport, where it is due about 3.30 p.m.
The Boeing will be under the command of N.A.C.’s flight-training superintendent (Captain P. J. Buck) and a Boeing Aircraft Company pilot—and there may be several Boeing representatives on board. Serving as flight engineer will be an N.A.C. engineer, Mr N. E. Layton. There will be a small informal ceremony to welcome the aircraft to Christchurch, at which the Mayor (Sir George Manning) and a number of airline representatives will be present. Public Inspection
The Boeing 737 will be taken to a hanger where the extra internal fuel tanks will be removed and replaced by normal seating before the aircraft is wheeled out for public inspection between 1.30 p.m. and 4.30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
The aircraft will be positioned between the freight depot and No. 2 hangar on the tarmac immediately adjacent to the Durey Road gates. Durey Road fronts on to the International Recreation Centre.
Although Christmas is still three months away, there have been many preferential bookings on Boeing flights for the holiday period.
