City Council Retirements

The retirement of two longservice employees—Mr M. W. Gorrie, the city rate collector, and Mr J. R. McGeorge, the assistant chief city health inspector—was reported to the City Council last evening. Mr Gorrie will retire on September 30 after 40 years with the council, which he joined as a message boy. He went into the rates department in 1930, became assistant rate collector in 1944, and rate collector three years ago.

The council agreed that Mr Gorrie’s assistant, Mr B. L. Paterson, be appointed to fill the vacancy, and that the position be redesignated supervisor, rates. Mr McGeorge joined the council's staff in 1954, before which he had been a health inspector with the Health Department in Christchurch. He will retire on October 13.
