TURNER PLAY

Fred Betts In Lead

Fred Betts, one of the bestknown actors in Christchurch, has been given the lead role as Fred Midway in David Turner's play “Semidetached,” which will be produced by Roy Hope for the Canterbury Repertory Society in November. A cast of nine was chosen for the production at auditions on Sunday night. Kay Scrivener will play Midway's wife, Judie Douglass his daughter, Eileen, and Richard Harvest her boyfriend. Other roles have been given to Ingrid Prosser, Robert Blake, Doreen Corrick, Clarence Hall, and Tony Blackett.

The play, described as a “bitter comedy," is about an insurance agent who has worked his way up to area supervisor, lives in a garishlyfurnished “semi-detached" in a posh Midlands suburb, and dreams of owning a "detached.”
