Enthusiastic Welcome
(N.Z. Press Association) SYDNEY, Sept. 16. Australian police ordered the four members of the American pop group, the Monkees, to get back in their car when a crowd of 300 screaming teenage girls threatened to overwhelm them at Sydney Airport today. The Monkees, Peter Tork, Mickey Dolenz, Mike Nesmith, and Davy Jones, were starting their Australian tour when the welcoming crowd crashed through barriers to reach the pop group. The 30 policemen on duty ordered the Monkees back and pushed the girls back behind the barriers. Police wrestled with screaming fans and lifted some of them bodily over the barriers.
