BEEHIVE BY 1974

Crt. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. The Beehive—the new administrative structure at Parliament Buildings—could be completed late in 1973 or early in 1974, the Prime Minister (Mr Hoiyoake) said today. Mr Hoiyoake said that the new south wall section of the existing main building would be finished next week and some of the offices would be occupied immediately.

When the present session of Parliament ended—probably in November—the 1968-69 recess would be used to build temporary accommodation for Bellamy’s, the catering section of Parliament, in preparation for the demolition of the old wooden part of the complex. At the end of the next session, late in 1969, it was intended to remove the front part of the old wooden building and begin the base of the Beehive, Mr Hoiyoake said.
