DEBATING TROPHY
Canterbury Second (N.Z. Press Association) ' WELLINGTON, Sept. 16. Wanganui won the Norwood I Trophy for debating in the I first Alfred Dunhill national speaking contest, held in Wellington at the week-end. The team comprised R. Spencer (leader), K. Laws, and J. Turney. In the final Wanganui beat Canterbury. J. R. Milligan (Canterbury), a Christchurch solicitor, was judged best speaker. Wanganui beat Whangarel in the semi-final and Canterbury beat Auckland. The impromptu speaking contest for the CanterburyCup was won by B. M. O'Connor (Wellington) a banking ; research officer, and the oratory contest for the Protestus I Cup went to R. W. Potter ( (Wellington), a bank officer. | The new president of the ! National Council of Debating ! Societies is Mr G. Mossman ! and the secretary- Miss E. Har- ‘ rison (Auckland).
