Daughter Of N.Z. Man

(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. > A 16-year-old Canadian I Olympic swimmer. Miss A. ■Walton, who will compete in I the 100 metres and 200 | metres backstroke and the medley in Mexico, is the daughter of a New Zealander, Dr R. J. Walton, who was a naval surgeon aboard H.M.S. Achilles during the Second World War. Born in England, Miss Walton went to Canada with her parents 13 years ago when Dr Walton took up an appointment as medical director of the Manitoba Cancer Foundation. Dr Walton left New Zealand when he joined the navy at the outbreak of the war. Miss Walton is coached by Mr H. Firby, who was the Canadian swimming coach at the Tokyo Olympics in 1964, and she is second in Canada only to Miss Elaine Tanner, who won the Commonwealth Games 440 yd medley gold medal, as well as winning silver medals in the 110 yd and 220 yd backstroke events l in Kingston.
