CRICKET HONOUR
Collegians Members
Five former cricketers who have given long, valuable service as players and administrators have received the Old Collegians’ Cricket Club’s highest honour, life membership. They are Messrs P. H T. Alpers, C. G. F. C. Hamilton, A. R. Mac Gibbon, R C. Saunders, and H. H. Wauchop.
All five played actively with the club for about 25 years.
Naturally Mr Mac Gibbon’s successes are well known as a club, provincial and international cricketer, but it is equally because of his attitude to the game and his assistance with coaching and association matters that the honour has been bestowed on him.
Although Mr Mac Gibbon’s! playing record overshadows I those of the other four, all j were notable cricketers in their time, only Mr Wauchop failing to reach senior standard for the club. Each has been a member of the Canterbury Cricket Association. Before the annual meeting of the club was held last evening. there were four life members, Messrs J. C. Saunders. E. G. Pidgeon, T. W. C. Tothill —the nresent patron—and the late H. M. Chrystall.
250 e.c. Title.—The British rider, P. Read, won the world 250 c.c. motor-cycling championships after snatching a tie on points at Monza, in Italy, with his fellow-Briton and Yamaha team-mate, B. Ivy.
