Junior Water Polo Board Established
The Canterbury Water Polo Board at its annual meeting last evening established a junior advisory board to organise and control schoolboy competitions.
Under its convener, Mr J. de Haan, the advisory board will be responsible for creating under-18 and under-15 competitions. Previously a
junior competition has been rim, but with no age restrictions. The new grades were proposed by the New Zealand selector, Mr N. R. Chambers, who explained the similar steps being taken throughout the country. Young Chairman Mr B G. Spear, aged 11. of the University club, was elected president after the retirement of Mr R. W. Henry, who has been in office for three terms. One of the province’s top goalkeepers, Mr Spear Is also active as president of his club. Other officers elected were secretary, Mr R. F. Dann: treasurer, Mr A. Harrow; competition controller. Mr I. S. Farquhar: gear steward. Mr T. M. McGlrr. Selector Promoted Thejunlor selector last season (Mr E. Tuyn) was appointed senior selector for the coming season. He will be assisted In the coaching of the Canterbury team by Mr M. C. Scott and together they replace Mr P MacFarlane, who recently left Christchurch. National Coach.—The national water polo coach (Mr W. H Dyson) will be asked to conduct a coaching clinic early In the season. Club Competition. After a friendly round of matches on October 7, club competitions will begin on October 14. Schools* Tournament.—Two teams were entered for the national secondary schools' tournament at Palmerston North during Labour week-end.
