NATIONAL GALLERY

New Director Arrives (N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND, Sept 9. The new director of the National Gallery, Mr M. N. Day, arrived in Auckland today on his way from London to Wellington to take up his position. Mr Day, aged 45, is married with no children. His wife will follow him to New Zealand soon.

They have been living in London since 1963. Mr Daysaid that it was because of the enormous challenge of the new job that he decided to return to New Zealand. “New Zealand has dragged in art and related subjects and the challenge will lie in trying to bring it up to London standards. As a country we should be prepared to think of investing in art as so many other countries are doing,” he said.
