TECHNICAL STUDENTS

Association Proposed

The action of a group of Christchurch Technical Institute students in taking steps to form a students' association was commended

when the institute’s board of governors met on Monday

evening. The board approved in principle a grant of $450 to the association, subject to its satisfactory organisation. The chairman (Mr R. Jones) said the board should give the proposed organisation all the encouragement it

could. A students’ association could do much to create a | spirit of unity and comrade'ship among students. The principal (Mr D. W. iLyall) said that regardless of whether an association were formed or not, it would inot be a bad thing for the board to do something about facilities for recreation and entertainment. At present, there was nowhere for students to have lunch unless they sat in the open, or in their cars. A committee of board mem- i bers was formed to examine the formation of an associa- 1 tion, with a view to recom- ■ mending the grant. i
