New Hebrides Link

A link between the women of New Zealand and the women and women’s clubs of the New Hebrides was proposed at a meeting of the Canterbury provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers. The speaker was Miss J. Smith, of Kaiapoi, who is acting Dominion president while Mrs J. K. Lees attends the conference of the Associated Countrywomen of the World, in Michigan. Agriculture was very much part of the life of New Hebridian women and they were interested to learn more about New Zealand, she said Branches were invited to make pictorial scrap-books showing the work of their organisation and aspects of Maori culture, arts and crafts. A collection of buttons, lace trimmings, ribbons, elastic, hook and eye fasteners, and simple dressmaking patterns—all rarities in the Pacific Islands—would be sent to them, said Miss Smith.

Wemtn'i Bowls. officers elected st the Iwenty-first annual conference of the New Zealand Women's Bowling Asso elation at Palmerston North yesterday were:— Patroness, Lady Porrltt: president, Mrs I. Beld (Buller); Secretary. Mrs J. Bain (Buller); vice-president, Mrs M. J. Hobbs (Auckland); Immediate past-president. Mrs K. Evans (Waikato); council executive, Mesdames J. D. Scott (Central Otago), E. Parsons (Southland), D. Griggs (Manawatu), and E. Christensen (Wanganui).
