SHIPPING TO AUST.
Improvement Forecast IN Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Sept. 6. The Union Steam Ship Company believes that its two new roll-on ferries will provide an improvement to Tasman shipping called for by the Trade Promotion Council. The Minister of Overseas Trade (Mr Marshall) has advised the council to approach the Union Company to see if a more regular shipping service to Australia could be introduced. The assistant general-man-ager of the Union Company (Mr P. A. McCallum) said that the company was still waiting to hear from the council. “However, we are building two new roll-on ferries especially for the Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne II route," he said. The Maheno was expected to be ready in January and the Marama about three months later. They are being built in Britain. Mr McCallum said the ships would keep to a strict timetable.
