RUSSIAN INVASION
Aust. Seeks Migrants (N.Z.P. A.Reuter —Copyright) CANBERRA, Sept. 2. Australia is determined to win as many migrants as possible as a result of Russia’s invasion of Czechoslovakia. The Minister of Immigration (Mr B. M. Snedden) has admitted publicly that Australia’s {migration officers in Europe are “operationally poised” to take advantage of the situation. Officials say that most of the effort is being concentrated on the Australian migration offices in Vienna, Bonn and Belgrade, each of which is staffed with a recruiting team that includes an interviewing officer and a doctor. In the event of a rush of applications, arrangements have been made to fly in more recruiting officers from other Continental posts. The Australian recruiters have been instructed to facilitate the passage of Czechoslovaks who have left home because of the Russian invasion.
These refugees will be given free passage to Australia, and even the nominal charge of $2O made to assisted migrants will be waived.
