Guest Conductors For N.Z.B.C. Chosen

(New Zealand Prets Association) WELLINGTON, September 2. The N.Z.B.C. tonight announced the guest conductors for its symphony orchestra next year after the present resident conductor, Mr Juan Matteucci, completes his contract with the corporation.

Earlier it was announced that Mr Matteucci would be associated with the Auckland Sinfonia next year. The N.Z.B.C. has decided not to appoint a new resident

iconductor In the meantime. Next April the Hungarianborn George Barati, director of a major arts centre in Saratoga, California, will conduct the orchestra.

i Pierino Gamba will replace Barati in July, 1969. Although he is just over 30, this Italianborn conductor has had many years experience conducting major symphony orchestras. The final conductor for 19,69 will be the Russian, Anatole Fistoulari.

. In 1970 Walter Susskind. 'Clyde Roller and Vaclav Smetacek have been scheduled for contract.

Further ahead, the N.Z.B.C. lis negotiating with Jacques Singer, Hein Jordans, and Franz-Paul Decker under negotiations for the 1971 concert season.

Under its new policy the corporation will use local conductors for concerts between the terms of overseas conductors.
