Sound Gallop By Kurwood
"The Press" Special Service DUNEDIN. Kurwood, Cody and Donald Mac were three of the most impressive trialists at Wingatui yesterday when horses engaged at the Otago Hunt Club’s meeting commanded most attention. Conditions were ideal. The plough offered good footing, but the inside grass was soft after overnight rain followed by a frost. Kurwood, ridden by his race rider. R. N. Marsh, showed that he was forward to resume racing in the Highcliff Hack Handicap when he worked keenly with Cody (H. T. AnderTon) over five furlongs on the plough in Imin 4 4-ssec. They continued a strong gallop to run the last three furlongs in 39 3-ssec.
Panace (L. W. Hare) made a forward showing when he started two lengths behind and shaded his stablemate. Dandy Miss (J. D. Pankhurst), at the end of five furlongs in Imin 7sec, the last three furlongs in 40 2-ssc. Panace has not raced for 18 months.
Donald Mac, ridden by his light-weight race rider, R. McAra, could have improved on his time of 53sec for half a mile, the last three furlongs in 40sec.
