CRICKET SHOWS $1065 PROFIT

The Canterbury Cricket Association made a profit of $1065 last season, according to the annual report to be presented by the president (Mr J. C. Saunders) on September 18.

The profit came largely from television and broadcasting rights for Plunket Shield matches and gate takings from the Auckland-Can-terbury game. The income for the year was $6520 and expenditure, $5455.

More than $1660 was received from broadcasting and television—double the amount for last year—and $1232 from gate takings of the three Plunket Shield matches played in Christchurch. The Auckland match brought in $709.

Payments to the Hagley Sports Centre had raised the total to more than $70,000, but Mr Saunders says it is one of the most important ventures in the history of Canterbury cricket. Canterbury had a successful 1967-68 season, finishing runner-up in the Plunket

Shield to Central Districts, being awarded the TechnosTitan Trophy for the second successive season, and winning the national under-23 tournament and the Brabin Shield.
