Otago Likely To Win Basketball
(New Zealand Press Association) WANGANUI. Otago confirmed its favouritism to take the A grade title when it scored its third successive convincing win in the New Zealand women’s indoor basketball championships yesterday.
Otago beat Hutt Valley, 4934, and again showed the power of its game. Auckland, tipped as another likely winner, was lucky to beat a forceful but trouble-
ridden Wellington side, 43-41, in another of the day’s top games. Wellington challenged Auckland continually in the first half and might have won with a more concentrated attack.
Nelson, which had looked strong in its win against Wellington on Monday, went down to Canterbury, 47-35. In the reserve section, Marlborough again played well to beat North Taranaki 37-23. Results:
' A grade: Canterbury 47, Nelson 35; Auckland 43. Wellington 41; Otago 49, Hutt Valley 34: Wairarapa 50, Rotorua 29. Reserve section: Southland 37, Wanganui 27; Marlborough 37, North Taranaki 23; Hawera 44, Waikato 34.
