BOOK-REVIEW COMPETITION

Nelson College Pupil Second

Raymond Hambling, a pupil of Nelson College, has won second prize in a book-review competition for sixth-form pupils in New Zealand sponsored by the Latimer Foundation, and a Christchurch girl, Kathleen Gillespie, of Sacred Heart Girls’ College, has been awarded one of five additional prizes. Entries from schools throughout New Zealand were received for the competition, which was held earlier this year to encourage young people to read and study the meaning of the Resurrection. The book reviewed was Michael Green’s “Man Alive,” which deals with an examination of the evidence of the Easter story. First place was awarded to Christopher Watson, of the Auckland Grammar School. The judges were Mr Errol Braithwaite, a well-known New Zealand author. Professor J. E. Morton, professor of zoology at the University of Auckland, and the Rev. J. O. Rymer, principal of Christchurch College. First and second prizes for the competition were books Ito the value of $75 and $25 (chosen by the winners. The 'additional prize-winners will leach receive books of their | choice to the value of $lO.
