Three Nelson Brothers Runners-up In Boxing

NEW PLYMOUTH. The New Plymouth Boxing Association was awarded the O'Leary Cup for the association scoring the most points in the finals, at the New Zealand championships at New Plymouth. The three Rackley brothers from Nelson all contested finals of their respective divisions but had to be content with runnerup placings, after winning well in the preliminary contests. R. Jackson (New Plymouth) won the final of the fist Ulb to 7st 21b class when he beat L. Rackley. Jackson deserved his win.
P. Weherua (Taranaki) beat J. Mitchell (Canterbury) on a split decision. E. Briggs Canterbury) won the 7st 71b clasa from Jf. Roguski (Hawera).
The 7st 121 b to Bst 31b class was won by K. Seque (Otago). Seque also won the trophy for the most scientific boxer at the
stopped the contest in the third round when Seque's opponent. E. Briggs (Canterbury), was in trouble. P. Fitzgerald (Manawatu) beat a 1966 junior champion when he took the title from P. Rackley. In the lOst class P. Bray (Masterton) hit too hard and often for C. Floy (New Plymouth), the referee stopping the contest. N. Aitken (Hawke’s Bay) beat G. Heapy (Masterton) in the lOst 71b to list class. D. Rackley beat G. McGarvey (Rotorua) in the 6st 11b to 6st 61b class when the referee stopped the fight. TROPHIES Special awards were: Sum merville Cup most scientific boxer at tournament): K Seque (Otago). Otematata Cup (gamest loser): T. B. Lyons (Hawke’s Bay). O’Leary Cup (most points on final night) New Plymouth Boxing Association Tyrer Cup (most points during tournament): Canterbury.
