Battle of Britain Ceremony

WELLINGTON,-Sept. 2. Ten selected ferns have been given by the Lower Hutt City Council to the Royal Air Force to mark the combined fiftieth anniversary of the force and the twentyeighth anniversary of the Battle of Britain. The ferns will leave Auckland by a Royal New Zealand Air Force Hercules on Friday. In commemoration of the events, a flower festival will be held from September 1315 in St George’s Chapel of Remembrance at Biggin Hill, Kent. N.Z. Flag The New Zealand flag will hang on the altar together with those of other nations. On the flag will be recorded the names of New Zealanders who were based at Biggin Hill and other stations in the sector. After the ceremonies, the ferns will be on permanent display in New Zealand House, London. The New Zealand High Commissioner in London (Sir Denis Blundell) has expressed his thanks to the Lower Hutt City Council for its gesture.
