Miss Whittleston Lowers Record

(N.Z. Press Association) ROTORUA, Sept. 1. The Mexico Olympic Games butterfly entrant. Miss S. Whittleston, broke her own New Zealand short-course record for the women's 100 yd butterfly event in Rotorua last evening. In a tense finish with a 14-year-old New South Wales counterpart, Miss H. Pannowitz, Miss Whittleston clocked 62.95ec, bettering her old record of 63.35ec. Miss Whittleston won only in the last few strokes. An l£-strong New South Wales team competed in a Rotorua carnival, but had little competition, and won 20 of the 24 events it entered.
