Ebert Lifts 2701 b
The outstanding Canterbury Olympic weight-lifter, T. Ebert, displayed decisive skill, speed and co-ordination to win the New Zealand Olympic middle-weight title at Whangarei on Saturday. Ebert also broke the New Zealand middle-weight press record with a lift of 2701 b. He snatched 2201 b and cleaned and jerked 3001 b for a total of 7901 b.
P. Ridgley (Northland) was second with 7751 b.
The Olympic heavy-weight representative, D. C. Oliver (Auckland), broke his Commonwealth record total for the three Olympic lifts with an aggregate of 11201 b. This was 151 b more than his previous Commonwealth record His best poundage was a clean and jerk lift of 4501 b above his head at a body weight of 3041 b. New Zealand's other Olympic representative, J. Bolton (Auckland), won the light heavy-weight championship. He pressed 3101 b, snatched 2701 b and jerked 3601 b for an Olympic total of 9401 b.
