High-density Flats

Sir,—The projected eightstorey flats block illustrated in Wednesday’s issue is to be commended. Obiously the scheme ensures a most economic way of housing people with a minimum use of very valuable land. However, in this case an undesirable feature presents itself, that of siting this block on a very small section adjacent to the already established Milbrook Flats. Traffic problems on a busy route will be intensified. There are probably many compensating features which justified this building, but I feel that, looking to the future, if this practice is continued citizens can expect that by the millenium Hagley Park will be ringed with closely-packed multi-storey apartment blocks. Is this desirable?—Yours, etc., JUST A CITIZEN. August 30, 1968.
