Casca Is Gore Pick
"The Presz” Special Service INVERCARGILL. Casca, a four-year-old Agricola gelding and a member of J. R. Dowling’s Wingatui team, should be capable of coping with the middle distance hacks in the Waikaka Hack Handicap at the Eastern Southland Hunt annual meeting at Gore today. A winner of two of his last three starts, Casca looks ready to clear hack class at short notice and this field will not be as difficult as the hack milers he beat at Riccarton at his last start. Most opposition for Casca may come from the Washdyke runner. Llanston, which has been consistent in recent weeks. Etassem's latest racing has been as a hurdler, a role in which he was twice second at Riccarton. He retains much of his ability on the flat and could measure up to those opposing him here. The T.A.B. double will be on the President’s Handicap and the Mandeville Handicap, for which Capasco and Mr Southland may be the respective favourites. The weather was unsettled yesterday and the forecast is for further rain. At this stage, however, the track is still firm.
