Vietnamese Orphans
Sir,—l fully agree with Mr B. B. Thompson on what he says of bringing Vietnamese orphans to this country, especially when our own orphanages are full and waiting for someone to adopt those children. This Government should never allow such a thing to take place. On collection days and house collections we are asked to support those orphans’ homes, so why bring in foreigners? It is very wrong to do so. Let those who made this war and are keeping it going look after the ones they made orphans. “Kiwi” complains about Mr Thompson’s remarks on English orphans. That is a different question. We are obliged to help our Mother Country or any of her dependent countries.— Yours, etc., D. BRYSON.
August 21, 1968. Sir,—Left-wing internationalists constanly equate patriotism with fascism, and only the unthinking will be misled by the pathetic efforts of “Kiwi” to apply this smear to the National Front. It is most enlightening, however, to read that he would outlaw an organisation because he disagrees with its views. We applaud the entry of European and particularly British immigrants into New Zealand as an act of continuing our ties with European culture, as much as we deplore the permanent entry of Vietnamese especially into white and presumably Maori families. The blame for the creation of orphans should be sheeted home to the Viet Cong and their allies, not to our gallant New Zealand serving men.— Yours, etc., (B. B. THOMPSON), National Organiser, New Zealand National Front Ashburton, August 22, 1968. [This correspondence is now closed.—Ed., “The Press.”]
