To be eligible for the course applicants need to be graduates, diplomates or matriculants between the age of 21 and 40 years. The six months course will be conducted by BHP in Wollongong, New South Wales. Salaries during training will range from $3172 to $4150, with a minimum for graduates of $3650. The formal course will be followed by three months further training at either Port Kembla or Newcastle. On successful completion of the 9 months training period, trainees will be appointed as Programmers on a salary of between $4056 and $4316. The latter figure is the minimum for graduates. There is ample scope for progress to advanced programming and systems analysis end design, with commensurate increases in salary.
