Children In Buses

Sir, —As a constant passenger on the Cranford Street bus, I wish to mention the obvious lack of manners on the part of students from a city secondary school for girls. Every morning girls who probably travel at concession rates sit snugly in their seats while adults, old enough in years to be their

parents, are forced to stand. It is a pity that the honour of this school should suffer for the sake of a few. Some would say that the bus driver should control the allocation of seating, but it must be realised that he has more important responsibilities. I say the parents should complete this part of a child’s education.—Yours, etc., FULL-RATE PAYING PARENT. August 15. 1968.

[The general manager of the Christchurch Transport Board (Mr J. F. Fardell) replies: “It is a condition of the school concession card that school pupils must not remain seated while adults stand. If the writer of this letter will kindly communicate the time of the bus concerned to the general manager, action will be taken against the offenders.”]
