Education
Sir, —I thank the Director of Education, Dr K. J. Sheen, for his reply, but am disturbed at his apparent lack of recognition of the undeniable fact that many of the children who by the end of their first year at school have slipped behind a few weeks, will, by the time that they have reached the end of their disastrous educational careers, be years behind those of their classmates who are doing work of an acceptable standard, and will in addition be so frustrated and “anti" as to be unteachable. Also it was disturbing to note on your leader page last week the statement that many more children are now getting secondary education when it should be plain to any astute observer that many of these pupils are actually doing primary work on secondary premises. Ask any secondary teacher.— Yours, etc., INQUIRER. August 20, 1968.
